No one is up in sleepy town Not morning, noon or night It wears the silence like a crown And shines it just for spite The sidewalks here don’t show the strain From footsteps or from bikes And greetings are all said in vain To glares as sharp as spikes Where are all the heart beats? Is anybody there? The storied life can bring you down I’m wide awake in sleepy town In this town there’s no time to chat The playground swings are still But each door has a “Welcome” mat There just to hide the chill Where are all the heart beats? Is anybody there? The storied life can bring you down I’m wide awake in sleepy town No cars moving, no dogs barking anywhere No kids running, no one’s anywhere Where are all the heart beats? Is anybody there? Where are all the heart beats? Is anybody there? The storied life can bring you down I’m wide awake in sleepy town No one is up in sleepy town It wears the silence like a crown

Have we learned nothing? You take one more swing And hope that this time I might drop I may be worn out Hurt from the last bout But I'm not someone you can stop Tenth round punches Don't add up to much at all I'm bruised and battered But nothing you can throw will make me fall I used to crumble Would always tumble You'd dare me to get off the ground Well, here I am now Still standing somehow Your same old tricks won't work this round Tenth round punches Don't add up to much at all I'm bruised and battered But nothing you can throw will make me fall The broken man you knocked around Has come a long, long way You trained me well, put me through hell It feels like a new day Tenth round punches Don't add up to much at all I'm bruised and battered But nothing you can throw my way is ever gonna make me fall again

The days are longer, every month is like a year The ghosts I thought I shook, they always reappear I was wrong and half insane to think she'd know my pain I'll take the blame and hope she learns that Sometimes there's a world outside of her The sky looks different, there are clouds were there was sun And words unspoken weigh on me like a ton I so need to say them all, and move beyond this crawl I'll take the blame and hope she learns that Sometimes there's a world outside of her If she had felt my blues, walked inside my shoes If she had only tried, I know what we once had would not have died  Does she wonder how I've been? Has she stepped out from within?  I'll take the blame and hope she learns that Sometimes there's a world outside of her Sometimes there's a world outside of her

There's a feeling you get when you're at the brink Four walls closing in There's no easy way out so you stop and think, "If I could..." Float away from here Just leave it for a while Stay away, till the picture's clear or go another mile Maybe it would be better to go along Pretend it's not there But you know where you are is not where you belong, and you might... Float away from here Just leave it for a while Stay away, till the picture's clear Or go another mile There's a feeling you get when you've had your fill Your best days are gone When you don't think you'll make it up one more hill, that's your time... Float away from here Just leave it for a while Stay away, till the picture's clear Or go another mile La la la la la Leave it for a while La la la la la Go another mile

about

Happiness is the Watusi is a five-song collection of home demos recorded over the past several years.

Much like its predecessor, 2013's Whatever Suits You, this release rose from a need to create new music even when common sense and middle-aged prudence tell you otherwise. Perhaps you know and experience the potential creativity "stiflers" that often accompany adulthood - family, sleep, a non-rock and roll professional career. Yes, they were all there.

If nothing more, Happiness is the Watusi is what happens when you won't let those pesky little things that still matter die. Sometimes it takes the form of an organized softball game with co-workers each Tuesday. Or it could be a trip to the basement with your trusty guitar after the kids turn down for the night.

Whatever this looks like for you, we hope you find some degree of happiness within the chords, melodies and words that make these five songs. —Wayne R. Goldman III
